Fantastic. I can relate but have not found the courage to throw out the old CDs (or vinyls!). I am however, proud to say I trashed those 8-tracks years ago!
I love how you went from the 'current' you to the 'past' you. And I loved this post! I have cards/gifts from past relationships that I need to toss...but first, I have to remember where they are.
My son has been saving me the decision by lifting my music a few at a time. The same musice he pissed and moaned about in his younger years. He can't believe that I was once so frivolous to have made such a huge investment in the music industry. I haven't told him, yet, how many record/music club memberships gone bad are responsible.
Ohh I was going to say I still need to trash my 8-tracks. I remember when my son found them and was so intrigued - he grew up with cassettes (OMG am I dating myself or what!!)
Wow! I sorted through my old CD's earlier this year before my recent move. OK, but I still have to re-listen to those CD's I didn't throw out - just in case, I can listen again or even convert for my MP3 Player? Won't know until I find the time to listen to them. Laughed hard about your sticker! That long ago? Wow, wonder where the kid FOUND the case?! LOL. Cheers, Julie

i've got a big ol' box of cassettes that I keep around for some reason. I guess being 33, single, and childless i've yet to disconect from my "former self" and can still relate to those old Dead Milkmen tapes.
Btw, I can't even LISTEN to old music from my past anymore... It's far too haunting - all of it. But I Did recently discover a modern solution: I downloaded a drumbeat synthesizer app from my iPhone (free) and now I listen to/ compose new, neutral sounds... It doesn't give haul me back to the past, and at the same time they sound really amazing, even for a newbie.

Funny how we change so much. There are songs on the radio that totally take me back to a different time in my life.
so true...I do like to hear songs from my past serendipitously but I could never listen to the whole album again...

So absolutely true how just hearing a song you associate strongly with a particular time and place can bring it all flooding back - even the smell!
But why throw it away? If you don't want it anymore, sell it on EBay!

Fuck this was good! I've got everything Floyd ever recorded and sadly their one of those groups which a lot of people just don't get!!
Just for the record here - 'The Wall' was my favourite album when I was 19..and at 40.. it still is!!
